Flu Shot Made Me Sick

But I wasn’t the person who had the shot! I don’t mean to be an alarmist but seriously… If you have recently been “vaccinated” against the flu, stay the frack away from me!

A family member works in a chemist. Last year after having a flu shot earlier in the week and whilst experiencing flu-like symptoms after having the shot, I was paid a visit by this person and within 4-7 days I had the flu. This year my partner had a flu shot and within 3 days had flu-like symptoms requiring time off work. Within a week I was knocked down with the flu. a coincidence? Perhaps, however take into consideration I am self-employed and do not deal with the public or staff. I work from home so during flu season tend to keep to myself.

Perhaps I did pick it up on a short visit to the supermarket. However, I’m not taking the chance next time. I don’t receive flu vaccinations because I am not sure of the health implications. My concern is all those who do get the jab every year are getting it and spreading it!

Who benefits from flu vaccinations? Please refer to picture below of the items I bought to try to get through the day.

Queensland, Australia’s LOVE State

Queenslanders are happy, friendly people who laugh loudly and cry hard. They hug and kiss each other upon greeting and have a genuine concern for their communities. I truly believe this so I’m not sure why I was so put off by Lisa Newman’s public display of affection for her husband. I think I may have even commented on how “inappropriate” it is. I stand corrected. The behaviours she displays are behaviours most Queenslanders display to their loved ones and even acquaintances.

I‘m not the hugging type. In fact, it actually creeps me out to have strangers draping their arms around me and planting a wet soggy mouth on the side of my cheek. But that’s me, and I grin and bare as not to offend the “attacker”, and even attempt a limp limbed hug and quick peck on the cheek in an effort to return the gesture. “When in Rome”

Back to the Newman’s. Conditioning. It’s the only thing I can think of that could change my perception of what I was seeing. If I saw a couple touching (not in an inappropriate way) and kissing at a BBQ or on the street, I would not give it a second thought. So why did I find Lisa’s behaviour so off-putting? Because it is not a behaviour (norm) I see or associate with politics. Politicians partners “hang” in the background, look good and say the right thing, but appear rather sterile. Perhaps this is due to the advise of their minder so they don’t say or do the wrong thing.  I think I prefer to see genuine, honest, open behaviour from my politicians rather than a staged performance, even if the touchy feely stuff is not my thing.

LNP is handed the reins

Queenslanders have taken to the polls and handed over the State to the LNP in a landslide election. The LNP how have the opportunity to “put up”. With Bob K’s party showing a strong interest as an alternative, the LNP should be looking over their shoulders. Batter Up, Game On….

“dry run” for the next Australian Election

Be it a brave member who goes against his electorate’s preferred choice for the PM’s job. Don’t forget who put you in the seat you hold. It wasn’t Rudd, Gillard or any other than the people you should have been out talking to over the weekend. Despite your preference, what is the preference of the people you represent?

I see this opportunity as a “dry run” for the next elections and I am watching with interest.

Etiquette – Don’t Talk About Religion or Politics

Which brings me to my first Post on WorldPress.

KRudd spitting chips

POLITICS – Let it be known that I am a “swinging” voter. I give my vote to a party based on Overall Policies and Overall Performance. I stress the Overall because I try to find the “middle ground” of each parties character to assess their ability to operate as a governing body.

Honesty and Integrity is a policy every political party should strive for. A rouge member of a political party would not put me off giving them my vote. What would influence me would be the way in which the party dealt with the issue. For example… if a member misused a credit card would the party cover it up or bring it out in the open allowing for transparent policy changes to prevent it happening again.

Dirty games are not tolerated. Staged press/media releases will backfire. Most of us can see through P.R concocted stories. Mudslinging should stay in the schoolyard. For example, who released the KRudd video. Inhouse or Opposition? I actually think people dealing with our PM would rather one that swears than one that lies.
